Hydraulic presses are versatile tools for laboratory sample preparation. In conjunction with a pellet die they can be used to form solid and semi-solid pellets (also called tablets and briquettes) for various spectroscopic and physical testing methods including infrared (IR) spectroscopy, X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectroscopy, dielectric spectroscopy, tablet dissolution tests, and more. It is also possible to compact powdered mineral, biological, ceramic and metallic materials as a stage prior to sintering in the research and development of novel materials. With heated platens, a hydraulic press can also be used for preparation of thin polymeric films for either spectroscopic or material research purposes.
The 15 ton and 25 ton Manual Hydraulic Presses have been designed to handle a wide variety of pressing applications. They are especially suited for the preparation of solid samples for XRF analysis and KBr discs for FTIR analysis Specac Evacuable Pellet Dies. The Presses can also be used with Specac Heated Platens for applications such as the preparation of thin polymer films.
The APEX 400 hydraulic press is dedicated to the production of pressed pellets for XRF laboratories and other elemental analyses. It is a benchtop press designed for repeated use in high-throughput analytical testing environments, producing sample pellets in steel rings, aluminium cups, or as unsupported pellets.
Specac’s Autotouch hydraulic press is available in 8 Ton, 15 Ton, 25 Ton and 40 Ton load configurations for industrial XRF applications and other laboratory powder compaction applications, including materials for use in engineering, electronics, and manufacturing.
The Apex Quick Release Die improves pellet preparation workflow and speeds up sample throughput. Featuring a patented quick release mechanism, it combines with the Autotouch press to make a powerful high-throughput pellet pressing solution for XRF labs.
The Specac Mini-Film Maker is designed to produce high-quality thin films of polymer and plastic materials for infrared transmission analysis. This product enables quick and easy hot pressing of samples at any temperature between ambient to 250°C, to give constant and reproducible thickness films over the range 50 to 500 microns with a formed diameter of 15mm.
Pelletising aids including aluminum support cups, binding/grinding additives, and polypropylene films to prevent samples adhering to die parts.
The P6 is a high-speed planetary ball mill suitable for particle size reduction and homogenising powder samples, particularly for XRF measurement. It can quickly and efficiently reduce powders to tens of microns in size.
